2 out of 3....

Posted : 15 years, 10 months ago on 3 June 2008 10:44 (A review of Jackson 5/Michael Jackson)

This bargain set features 2 of the best Jackson 5 compilations out there, both featuring a good mixture of hit singles and little heard album tracks that are just as worthy of your time. MJ's first album on the otherhand is really for MJ completists and moves away from the funky J5 sound into overproduced, Disney-esque ballads.

R&B/pop at its best

Posted : 15 years, 10 months ago on 3 June 2008 10:28 (A review of Heavy Nova)

Along with Michael Jackson, Robert is the only R&B artist whose music really impresses me and while he has great albums going as far back as the 1970s (i.e way before "Addicted To Love") _Heavy Nova_ is one of his more consistant ones and like Jacko's best stuff, takes the usual R&B formula and mixes it with all sorts of freaky, fun elements. Highlights include the powerhouse rock of "Simply Irresistable" and the cheerful strangeness of "Change his ways".

I...AM...IRON-MAAAN!

Posted : 15 years, 10 months ago on 2 June 2008 07:44 (A review of Iron Man - the Complete Series (1990's))

The best and most fun of all the Marvel cartoons this one was part of the Marvel Action Hour shown in the UK in the mid to late 1990s.
The episodes on disc one are all round quite dated though by the second disc there is a new Heavy Metal theme song, a much slicker animation style and plotlines that are closer to the comics.

Teenage Mutant Hero Who?....

Posted : 15 years, 10 months ago on 2 June 2008 07:37 (A review of Bike Mice From Mars - Series 1 Vol.1)

Okay I was a big Turtles fan, by the time Biker Mice From Mars came along I was moving away from those kind of cartoons to real life kids shows (Pete and Pete, Sister Sister etc)though I do remember watching a few episodes of Biker Mice I only picked up this DVD because it was stupidly cheap in a Used section.
To my complete surprise I found this cartoon to be really good. There is alot of laugh-out loud humour in this cartoon that mainly comes from the villians (Limburger,Greasepit and Dr carbunkle)plus lots of action and while each episode contains a moral, things never get very serious and all the better for it. An excellent cartoon along with Visonaries and the 1990s Iron Man.

Definately not just for kids

Posted : 15 years, 10 months ago on 2 June 2008 07:27 (A review of Visionaries - Knights Of The Magical Light [1985])

Simply one of the best cartoons I have ever seen and this isnt nostalgia as I wasnt born when this cartoon was being aired. I checked this out due to curiousity and it is one of the best DVDs in my collection.
The concept of a future earth drained of electricity and forced back to medieval living is cool, add some very funny dialogue, spot-on voice acting and bold character design to the mix and you have one great show.

Brilliant

Posted : 15 years, 10 months ago on 2 June 2008 07:07 (A review of The Curse of Blondie)

My overall favourite Blondie album even above Parallel Lines mainly for Deborah's excellent vocal melodies and for featuring some of their hardest rocking songs.

like Duran Duran? get this album!

Posted : 15 years, 10 months ago on 2 June 2008 06:50 (A review of So Red the Rose)

Containing the moody edge of Duran Duran's first album with the exotic sounds and tunefulness of _Rio_, Arcadia's _So Red The Rose_ is to date one of my best, most frequently played CDs.

The best way to experience a truly great rock band

Posted : 15 years, 10 months ago on 2 June 2008 06:39 (A review of Message in a Box)

The Police were much more than a singles band, many of my favourite tracks here are obscure album cuts or forgotten B sides the latter not previously available on CD. Look out for the version of _Message In a Box_ which includes a book covering the band's career with lots of excellent colour photographs.
